Competition energizes colleges to develop invigorating and focused curricula for the technical needed in today’s fast-paced and challenging cyber environment. A 6-member team must work together as a real company would to defend its network from red team attacks while maintaining crucial business services and responding to customer and administrative demands.

  • Wicked6: (FIRST PLACE WINNERS) Competition where students prepare and test themselves against practical cybersecurity challenges that they will likely face in the workforce, such as identifying hackers from forensic data, pen testing and auditing vulnerable websites, recovering from ransomware attacks, etc.

  • Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC): (NINTH PLACE 2023) Competition asks student teams to assume administrative and protective duties for an existing “commercial” network – typically a small company with 50+ users, 7 to 10 servers, and common Internet services such as a web server, mail server, and e-commerce site. Each team begins the competition with an identical set of hardware and software and is scored on their ability to detect and respond to outside threats, maintain the availability of existing services such as mail servers and web servers, respond to business requests such as the addition or removal of additional services, and balance security needs against business needs.

  • National Cyber League (NCL): (3.73rd 2023 297th out of 7934th) Competition where students prepare and test themselves against practical cybersecurity challenges that they will likely face in the workforce, such as identifying hackers from forensic data, pen testing, and auditing vulnerable websites, recovering from ransomware attacks, etc.

  • Hivestorm: Collegiate-focused cyber defense competition, in which teams compete to secure Windows and Linux-based machines by removing malware and other infections, correcting misconfigurations, mitigating vulnerabilities, disabling vulnerable services, and so on.
